Andrew Davis |
We have been in touch with Andrew for some months as we sought his advice concerning the lorry we hope to get to Bosnia. He has been involved with Bosnia, taking aid, since 1992. He usually goes twice a year. He leaves for his next trip shortly, this month of July 2007. His organisation is called Wythenshawe Development Trust and a website is in the process of being created describing Andrew's work in this country and Africa as well as the Balkans.

Balkan Aid Relief Foundation |
Earlier this year, 2006, through the sort of connection that does happen when people know you have an interest in Bosnia, we met a man called Stuart Lindley from Boston in Lincolnshire. He is the most amazing man! He has a few health difficulties which he deals with and he does not let them hold him up in his aims and intentions for Bosnia. He drives regular, twice-yearly, aid convoys to Banja Luka, which is in the north, and has been doing so since 1998. This website is really worth looking at. As always, we believe we are meant to be 'links in a chain' for the benefit of refugees in Bosnia. In a small way, we have already begun by connecting with Stuart, sharing with each other all for the benefit of refugees ... so far he has offered the entire contents of a Dental Clinic (except the walls!) and tools and we have been able to give him art materials for schools in Banja Luka and other things that we cannot get to Bosnia ourselves. We are looking for ways to accept the Dental Clinic and tools.

Janet Leff, Medical Social Worker |
Janet Leff is an American Medical Social Worker (retired) who has lived and worked in Medjugore for 5 years, helping refugees in the area of Mostar and surrounds. She has been instrumental in 'opening our eyes' to the needs in Bosnia and we have been helping, and will continue to help Janet by bringing specific, requested aid to her for her work. We also introduced Annie Burrett, Senior Midwife and Nurse from Warwick, England, to Janet and they now work together helping the poorest of the poor who are not living in refugee camps but struggling to survive outside with very little help.

Matthew Procter MBE and the MIRACLES Charity |
Matthew Procter has been working in Bosnia, helping refugees, for over 10 years, and is now fluent in the Croatian language. He is the Bosnian 'arm' of the UK based MIRACLES Charity. He has many projects developing at the present time, mostly in and around Mostar. Just putting his name, Ampleforth or the Charity's name into Google will give you a lot of information.
We have been privileged to see some of Matthew's projects - the Dental Clinic (free for the very young and the elderly), the building of a Prosthetics Centre, Sports Centre and Playing fields and various houses that are being built. Matthew is focussing on helping orphans who, when they leave the orphanages, have nowhere to go and no work. He has successfully begun to set up apprenticeship schemes for them. He is also helping the Romany people in Mostar who really are 'the poorest of the poor' and he helps those who need to travel abroad for medical aid.

Mother's Village, Medjugorje |
There are many websites where you can read about Mother's Village in Medjugorje eg www.mother's village.org. If you want to help, you can make contact on e-mail: medjugorje.caritas@tel.net.ba.
We had a brief visit, in October 2006, to visit Milijenka at Mother's Village and to see the huge warehouse of aid stored there on that day. We were so impressed with all the clothes and shoes that were stored floor to ceiling in a vast warehouse, all for the benefit of the refugees and the very poor.

Nancy and Patrick Latta |
In October 2006, Nancy and Patrick Latta made us very welcome for breakfast in the 'castle' they have built in Medjugorje over the last 10 years. It was a huge surprise to us, a place full of love and peace. Their testimonies, how the castle came to be built and what it is being used for all make moving and exciting reading.
Just putting 'Nancy and Patrick Latta' into Google will bring up a lot of information about them and their work.

Nottingham Aid for Bosnia or wherever there is need |
We were invited to meet Carol Ridley-Barker and her husband Pete in the Summer of 2005. We were fascinated to hear all her stories of helping refugees in Bosnia which she has been doing for some 16 years now - although she has been rather restricted through ill health in 2006. If anyone has a book inside them, Carol does!
Over the years Carol has spent a lot of time in Camp Tasovcici in Capljina, where we go, and, in the past, has organised a Dental Unit for the Camp, Christmas Parties, fitted the kitchen out with equipment, set up the football pitch for the boys and provided them with football boots etc and, ten years ago, she brought a football team of 14 year olds to this country to play football - which was extremely successful! Carol has worked all over Bosnia over the years with all ethnic groups and has even slept with street children in Sarajevo and Mostar - despite the rats! She said if the children had to put up with them, she would too. Her work for Bosnia has been enormous and this has been recognised in her home City of Nottingham. Our prayer would be for Carol to regain her health and continue her wonderful work.
We quickly discovered, if you need to know anything about Bosnia, the needs and how to help, ask Carol! It was Carol who put us in touch with Matthew Procter and what an amazing link that has turned out to be.
Just putting Carol Ridley-Barker's name into Google will bring up more information about her work.

Novi Most International |
In recent years, we have become very aware of the work of Novi Most International. Recently, the daughter and son-in-law of friends of ours, both committed Christians, spent 2 1/2 years living and working in Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina as part of the Novi Most organistion. We visited them and their small daughter in Mostar during that time. NOVI MOST means 'New Bridge' and, as many of you will know, the famous 500 year old bridge in Mostar was destroyed during the War. It has now been completely restored. The aim of Novi Most is to build a 'bridge' between young Muslims and young Croatians. You can read all about this inspiring and wonderful work on the website.
