New houses are being built in Capljina all the time. That is the aim of the refugee families to own their own home again. With the help of Housing Aid Bosnia and Rebuild for Bosnia, in particular, this dream is coming true for many refugees. It is very exciting for us too seeing the new houses going up and knowing that the houses are taking people from 'despair' to 'hope'. Once people are able to move out of Camp Tasovcici, they are no longer seen to be refugees which is a great 'step forward' for them, reclaiming normal life again.
Sadly, there are still many bombed out houses visible in Capljina. These belong to Serbs who are too afraid to come back and claim what is theirs. The fear is on all sides - Serb, Muslim and Croatian. These wrecked houses are a shocking reminder of the War and we don't know when they will be cleared or who will take responsibility for doing so.
